Community Science

Community science is the collection and analysis of scientific data by community members in collaboration with professional scientists or organization. Participants build our capacity to collect data that informs the actions we take to conserve birds and their habitat.

Community scientists are essential in ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡'s efforts to protect birds and their habitats in Vermont. Whether you're participating in a monthly bird monitoring walk at Green Mountain ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Center or a Christmas Bird Count circle near you, community scientists contribute to a better understanding of Vermont's birds.

Birdathon

Birdathon is one of ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Vermont’s biggest fundraisers of the year. Our goal is to raise $30,000 each spring, a fundraiser we've run every year since 2000.

We begin our journey bright and early to travel through forests, fields, and along rivers and ponds to see, hear, and identify as many of our feathered friends as possible within a 24-hour period.  Our staff team spends most of our day combing the hills and forests of the Green Mountain ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Center and Birds of Vermont Museum before venturing farther afield. 

Through generous sponsorships from friends, family, and ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ supporters, we raise essential funds to maintain ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Vermont's education programs, science initiatives and Green Mountain ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Center facilities.

Whether you’re inspired by a love of birds, concern for the environment, or the sheer pleasure of being outdoors, the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Birdathon is a great opportunity to do something positive for the planet—and have fun doing it!
