�±�’r�� thrilled to announce that Jamey Fidel has joined ̽����ѡ Vermont as our new Vice President starting August 18th.  

You may already know Jamey through his long-standing leadership in Vermont’s conservation community. For more than two decades, Jamey has been a trusted and respected voice for the state’s forests, wildlife, working landscapes, and wild natural areas. His deep expertise in forest and wildlife conservation, land use policy, and environmental law will be a tremendous asset to our team ensuring Vermont’s future is bright for birds, biodiversity, and people.  

Jamey brings a strong track record of collaborative leadership, science-based advocacy, and commitment to Vermont’s people and landscape. �±�’r�� confident that his leadership will help strengthen ̽����ѡ Vermont’s impact and advance conservation across the state and region.

Jamey comes to us from the Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC), where for the past two decades, he has served as Forest and Wildlife Program Director and General Counsel. Over the years, he has played a pivotal role in shaping some of Vermont’s most significant conservation policies, from wildlife habitat protections to forest fragmentation legislation and proactive land use reforms.  

He is the founder and long-time convener of the Forest Roundtable, a respected multi-stakeholder forum that has, for nearly twenty years, brought together landowners, scientists, conservationists, foresters, planners, government officials, and many other important voices to advance forest policy and promote healthy forests.  

Jamey built his early-career experience in Colorado, working on land, biodiversity, and watershed protection efforts with Pitkin County, the Aspen Wilderness Workshop, and Public Counsel of the Rockies. His work is grounded in a deep academic foundation that blends legal, scientific, and policy expertise: he holds a Juris Doctor and a Master’s in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies with a minor in Wildlife Biology from the University of Vermont.  

In reflecting on this new role,  Jamey shared: “We are so fortunate to live in a beautiful state that cherishes its forests, birds, biodiversity, and diverse wildlife habitat. It is an honor to be stepping into this role with the talented staff at ̽����ѡ Vermont. I look forward to working collaboratively with critical partners, communities, and landowners to promote a dynamic and resilient state that is ready to meet the challenges of our time.” 

Beyond his impressive résumé, Jamey is known for his integrity, thoughtfulness, and dedication to working across differences to find lasting conservation solutions. His deep relationships in Vermont and across the region will help ̽����ѡ Vermont continue to grow its impact—from protecting bird habitat and supporting climate resilience to strengthening partnerships with communities, landowners, and policymakers.
