Katie Weeks

Director of Community Education, ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Southwest
About

Katie Weeks (she/her) leads the education teams and programs at the Randall Davey ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Center in Santa Fe and the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Center in Phoenix. She directs and supports ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Southwest’s educational portfolio, including K-8 STEAM education, teacher training, camp programs, and community learning. With over a decade of experience in teaching, environmental, and informal science education, she is a strong proponent for hands-on learning both inside the classroom and out in the natural world.

Katie’s love for nature was born in the mountains and oceans of O'ahu, Hawaii, and was nurtured by Girl Scout camps and family National Park trips. She attended Kalamazoo College for her B.A. in Environmental Studies, and later the University of North Carolina Wilmington for her M.S. in Environmental Studies and Education. Before she joined ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ in the Fall of 2017, Katie worked with the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, Hawai'i Institute for Marine Biology, Hawai'i Youth Conservation Corps, taught preschool, and managed a large summer camp program at the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science. She currently serves on the executive board of the Santa Fe Community Educators Network.

When she's not chasing her toddler around, Katie loves to play taiko drums, go on slow nature nerd hikes, and make puns, much to the chagrin of her family. Her spark bird is the kolea (Pacific Golden Plover).
