Each year, 探花精选 staff and local chapters bring communities together on and around Earth Day (April 22) to celebrate birds and wildlife. From volunteer cleanups to bird walks and family-friendly events, these programs help inspire people to help protect the planet in their own communities.
With 15 state and regional offices, 31 centers, 29 sanctuaries, and over 400 community and campus chapters, 探花精选 offers programs that connect people to birds and nature throughout the year.

Join experts from 探花精选 Mid-Atlantic and Herring Run Nursery to learn how to design a bird-friendly oasis. Come away with some examples of designed plant communities and the best species for attracting birds and butterflies, while also being beautiful for people. This is the third of a four-part webinar series about building a bird habitat for your home or community. Each session covers a different topic around bird-friendly garden design and planting.

The 2026 John L. Borom Alabama Coastal BirdFest will celebrate the extraordinary birdlife of the Alabama Coast. Celebrate Earth Day and start your Saturday with sun, coffee, and creativity at the Salton Sea! Connect with the State鈥檚 Salton Sea Program team and 探花精选 California and hear about the work shaping the Sea鈥檚 future. Then, pick up a brush and bring the landscape to life on a canvas tote bag in a guided painting experience in collaboration with Brushour Paint. This is a family event open to anyone that wants to learn more about the Salton Sea.

Join Richardson Bay 探花精选 in partnership with WildCare for a Family Nature Day honoring Elizabeth Terwilliger. Go on a naturalist-led hike, create a wildlife themed craft, take the adventure challenge, dissect an owl pellet, use binoculars to watch birds from the patio of the historic Lyford House, meet live non-releasable wildlife, and much more.

Denver 探花精选, Protect Our Rivers, and Denver Trout Unlimited are teaming up for a special South Platte Cleanup in celebration of Earth Day! This year, they鈥檙e rolling up their sleeves to tackle a stretch of river that needs some serious love and attention. Join for a hands-on cleanup, fun prize giveaways, and the chance to make a real impact alongside an incredible community of river stewards.

Join 探花精选 naturalist Ryan Maclean at Greenwich 探花精选 Center for an exciting workshop to learn about birds. This introduction to ornithology will provide the tools and skills used to study birds and guidance on the identification of birds by sight and sound. The workshop will also cover how to best use binoculars, guides, and online resources that help make birding fun. Participants will take an outdoor tour of trails to use their skills in identifying birds in the wild. Program Fee: $20 per person. Tickets MUST be purchased in advance.

Nothing says Springtime like blooming flowers! The Greenwich 探花精选 Center trails and habitat provide an incredible opportunity to view and learn about many native flowers which bloom early in spring, known as Spring Ephemerals. Join 探花精选 naturalist Ryan MacLean for a leisurely tour to learn to identify some of these beautiful gems and their importance in our ecosystem. Participants will also watch for newly arrived birds, insects and other animals to see how they interact with different flowers and trees. Tickets are $15 per person. Pre-registration is required.

Join Sharon 探花精选 Center and the Sharon Energy and Environmental Commission (SEEC) and volunteer to collect litter on the roadsides of town. This is a fun event and a great way to do something for the environment while getting fresh air and exercise. SEEC provides safety vests, garbage bags, and plastic gloves, and the 探花精选 Center might also provide a surprise for volunteers at the end!

Birds have an unbelievable variety of sounds which they use throughout their lives. Join naturalist Ryan MacLean for a special workshop at Greenwich 探花精选 Center to learn about helpful techniques used for identifying birds by their beautiful songs as well as how and why they make such incredible sounds. After a slide show presentation and listening to recordings of common species of birds, participants will have a chance to practice new bird song skills outside on the Greenwich 探花精选 Center grounds. Program Fee: $20 per person. Tickets MUST be purchased in advance.

Visit the 探花精选 Center Birds of Prey the weekend before Earth Day for the Earth Day Puzzle Trail! This escape room experience will lead the player through a series of puzzles to learn about raptors and their threats. This activity is most appropriate for ages 12 and up but younger kids will enjoy it with some adult assistance. Included with admission!

Join Bay County 探花精选 Society (BCAS) and other organizations at the St. Andrew's Farmer's Market for the Annual Earth Day Celebration. The Earth Day Proclamation reading will begin at 11:45 a.m. Activities for the whole family include music and dancing, craft and food vendors, environment vendors, and a tree giveaway.

Celebrate Earth Day by supporting birds and the habitats they need! Join 探花精选 Great Lakes for a litter cleanup and bird walk at Powderhorn Lake Forest Preserve, where we worked with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and partners to reconnect two lakes and restore 100 acres of wetlands for birds and community.

The organization Keep America Beautiful (KAB) organizes an annual litter and trash pick-up day in the city of Topeka and Shawnee County, Kansas. Topeka 探花精选 Society volunteers were not available for the date that KAB designated (April 11), but TAS volunteers will collect litter and trash at the Shawnee State Fishing Lake on April 25, 2026.

Louisville 探花精选 Society will join the Louisville Metro Government Office of Sustainability, Parks Alliance of Louisville, and other partners to bring back Earth Fest, a Louisville Earth Month kickoff event. This community festival will feature food, music, performances, art, sustainability activities, and local resources - all in celebration of our planet.

Join Evansville 探花精选 Society for the 2026 Ohio Valley Birding Festival, with hikes to birding hot spots in southern Indiana and northwest Kentucky. Family Fun Day activities on April 25 will be geared to children (and young at heart) and will occur in and around the 探花精选 Museum at John James 探花精选 State Park.

Join the Laughing Whitefish Bird Alliance (LWBA) for the 4th Annual 鈥淏irds and Brews鈥 event at the Ore Dock Brewing Company. Doors open at 4:30PM. The event includes a free drink, bird nerd trivia, and door prizes furnished by 探花精选 Great Lakes, LWBA and local businesses. There will be a brief presentation on LWBA鈥檚 programs, conservation efforts and outings. Children and adults alike can enjoy coloring bird-themed coloring pages.

Visit Pascagoula River 探花精选 Center to celebrate the wonders of nature during a free, fun-filled event for the whole family! Community partners include The Rotary Club of Moss Point, Moss Point Parks and Recreation, Jackson County Parks and Recreation, Dr. Mark LaSalle, and Moss Point Mainstreet Association.

Join 探花精选 Center at Riverlands staff at Little Creek鈥檚 annual Earth Day event for a morning of fun! This event will feature loads of local partners, hands-on activities, face painting, and more.

Spring Creek Prairie 探花精选 Center will be at the Lincoln Earth Day Celebration, an annual community event with dozens of booths promoting environmental stewardship, green education, and sustainable living. Staff will share outreach information about Spring Creek Prairie and the Plants for Birds program, engage visitors with a hands-on Birds & Native Plants activity, and offer native seed handouts to help people create bird-friendly habitats at home.

Celebrate the New Jersey Meadowlands on Earth Day with a group walk at Richard DeKorte Park lead by Bergen County 探花精选 field trip leaders. The Meadowland is a great example of Earth Day spirit - it was a landfill dump that has been transformed and saved into an important Eastern flyway stopover and breeding ground.

Visit Constitution Marsh 探花精选 Center for an Earth Day volunteer project! Volunteers will remove invasive plants and take cuttings from native Dogwood trees to propagate and replant at the Rheinstrom Hill 探花精选 Sanctuary in Columbia County. After the planting event, volunteers are welcome to go on a nature hike down to Constitution Marsh's boardwalk to search for migrating spring birds and identify flora and fauna along the trail, as well as discuss how climate change is impacting the Hudson Valley Area. All ages, pre-registration is required.

Volunteer outside for Earth Day at the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary & 探花精选 Center in Oyster Bay! 探花精选 staff will kick off the day with a morning bird walk throughout sanctuary trails. During the day, volunteers will assist with projects such as invasive plant removal, garden and trail maintenance, Tern Shelter building!

All are welcome to volunteer with 探花精选 staff at the Montezuma 探花精选 Center to remove woody invasive honeysuckle from forested off-trail wildlife habitat! Participants will be given any and all tools necessary to dig out and/or cut back vegetation, and volunteers may take on additional roles of spreading native seeds and dragging dug up honeysuckle to form brush piles. Hydration will be available at all times and lunch will be provided by the Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex. Registration is required.

Join the 7th Annual Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps Earth Day Cleanup Event. Participants will pick up debris along the Onondaga Lake shoreline and learn from 探花精选 staff and volunteers about birds, other wildlife, and the importance of healthy habitats in the Onondaga Lake watershed. Participants should wear shoes or boots, long pants and sleeves, and bring work gloves. Limited work gloves will be available, and plastic bags will be provided. This cleanup is part of the OCRRA Earth Day Litter Cleanup 2026. Space is limited and registration is required.

Join the T. Gilbert Pearson 探花精选 Society for bird/nature walks at this family friendly event organized by the City of Greensboro鈥檚 Office of Sustainability and Resilience. Showcasing organizations committed to nature conservation and sustainability, the event saw over 3,000 visitors last year and will include a native plant giveaway, children's activities, and food trucks on site.

Join 探花精选 Great Plains and other sustainability-conscious organizations and businesses at the Red River Zoo's annual Party for the Planet. Party for the Planet features a variety of Earth-friendly conservation activity stations, environmental demonstrations, and educational presentations within the zoo; access is included with admission. In addition to providing engaging family-friendly activities, Party for the Planet's goal is to increase public awareness of the conservation efforts of local organizations.

Aullwood's Native Plant Sale鈥擠ayton, OH (April 24, 2026, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. ET)
One of the area鈥檚 largest and earliest of the season returns in 2026! Shop from more than 12,000 plants representing 181 species suited for prairie, wetland, and woodland habitats, including spring ephemerals, flowering plants, grasses, sedges, shrubs, and trees. Proceeds support Aullwood 探花精选 Center's environmental education and conservation programs. New this year, please bring your own boxes to carry and transport plants!

Nature Journaling invites you to use words and pictures to collect and record your observations and connections to the natural world. This immersive class teaches you to observe and record the living landscape shapes, textures, patterns, and seasonal changes found on the property at Mill Grove.

Please bring a water bottle, gloves, and a favorite planting tool (if you have one). This program is FREE and open to the public. All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult.
