Corkscrew Members are invited to attend a virtual lecture on March 13: Celebrating Raptor Conservation in Florida, featuring Katie Warner, Center Director, and Daisy Fiore, PhD, Senior Education Coordinator, at ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Center for Birds of Prey.
̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Center for Birds of Prey is a premier rehabilitation and education facility dedicated to rescuing, treating, and releasing Florida's raptors, including the adorable Eastern Screech-Owlets shown here.
During the lecture, Katie will share highlights about the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡'s origins in Maitland and the subsequent establishment of the Center, as well as the latest news on raptor conservation efforts in Florida.
Then, Daisy Fiore, PhD, will take us on a special journey through the Center's Raptor Trauma Clinic while providing helpful information on how to protect raptors in your own community.
This special lecture is for Corkscrew members only. Corkscrew members receive free admission tickets to the ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Center for Birds of Prey. The Zoom meeting link will be provided one week prior to the lecture.
As Director for ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Center for Birds of Prey, Katie Warner is responsible for creating and implementing sustainability strategies, with input from a community advisory committee, to ensure the Center’s long-term financial viability and success in Central Florida. Working closely with program staff and volunteers, Katie leads the Center’s efforts, overseeing all program and operations, including environmental education, conservation, and community engagement.
Daisy Fiore, PhD, serves as the senior coordinator of education at ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Center for Birds of Prey. She comes from the world of anthropology, holding an MA in biological anthropology and a PhD in anthrozoology. Over the last seventeen years, she’s held nearly every zoo and aquarium job, including keeper, educator, curator, and tour guide. Though she spent most of her career with primates, birds have been close to her heart since she was a child attending ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ camps and field trips with her mom, an ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ Chapter President. In 2022, she started at the Center for Birds of Prey and quickly fell in love with raptors. Her favorites are Eastern Screech-Owls and American Kestrels.
